ASTI votes for industrial action

The members of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) have voted to proceed with industrial action in a rejection of the Haddington Road Agreement. With industrial action set to commence on 2nd October, schools are likely to face difficulties in maintaining their planned schedule of classes and meetings.

In a diaspute between parents who could not come to agreement, the High Court was recently asked to decide which school a 12 year old boy should attend. The judgment of Mr Justice Hogan demonstrates how family law can sometimes become an issue in education-related matters.

Minister Quinn has today announced changes to how fees are levied on non-EEA students who become Irish citizens during the course of their third level education. These changes are intended to ensure that such students are entitled to the same fee structure as other Irish students. You can read the full report here.
